So he popped the question…you said yes…you decided (very sensibly) to leave the cold and the ordinary back at home and fly somewhere tropical to say your vows to each other…your friends agreed (holiday and a wedding – why not?)…now it dawns on you that you have all your friends and family in the same place for possibly over a week – the wedding day is sorted, but what about the rest of the time? Never fear – Koh Samui is FULL of options for you and your guests; from eye-opening, adrenalin packed activity days to ‘drifting off on a cloud’ relaxation options.

Breaking the ice: Your guests have travelled a long way to celebrate with you – make the most of it! Don’t wait until the wedding day to see everyone. One of the major advantages of a destination wedding is that it lasts longer! Plan a pre-wedding meet and greet to avoid awkwardness on the wedding day and guarantee a lively party atmosphere for your big day.

Boat trips are fantastic for this, not only do they give everyone a chance to mingle, but they can do so aboard a sleek catamaran, whilst admiring the stunning island views as they sail past with a glass of wine in hand…what better way to start a holiday? Snorkeling? Ok we’ll throw that in too –and it doesn’t stop there, why not arrange a boat for a private day or sunset trip? The boat-hire companies on Samui are flexible to accommodate what YOU want to do – whether it be island hoping, underwater exploring or even pampering (masseuses and beauty technicians can be brought along to indulge you throughout the day).

Group meals or cocktail nights are also very popular – either, for a pre-wedding ‘get-to-know-each-other’ or for a post- wedding ‘thank-you-for-coming-let’s-carry-on-the party’ night. For such a small island there are a staggering amount of restaurant options to suit all tastes budgets. Should you want a luxury, fine-dining feast or a more rustic beach barbeque, you can find the right place for your needs.

Hen and Stag Dos: So, the meet and greet has been done, everyone is now BFF’s and getting on fantastically…now is the perfect time to throw in those Hen and Stag Dos. Yes, you may have had one at home already…but who said you can’t have two? And, really, it’s rude to ignore all the fantastic possibilities offered on Samui…

For the boys: Go for a touch of sophisticated luxury during the day at a 5 star golf resort; treat yourselves to impeccable service, breathtaking views and of course some healthy competition…don’t worry no one said the evening had to be classy too!

Fancy something more energetic to make the most of this exceptional island? Give yourself a thrill with a cable ride through the jungle tree-tops, explore Muay Thai boxing with a private group training session or see who can snag the best catch with personalised group fishing tours on the open sea.

These are just some of the options available; to really push the competitive nature of stag do there’s also a fantastic, newly opened, go-karting track to show off your prowess behind the wheel, an off-roading ATV tour or a paint balling arena set amid the tropical jungle – forget call of duty – this is the real deal! For water-sport lovers there are a host of opportunities to get wet around the island, you could hire jet ski’s, kayaks, windsurfs or the for the less co-ordinated…banana boats!

And last but not least is the 18-hole football golf course. Whether you know it as soccer or football, all are welcome, and this is a great way to spend an hour or two.

For the girls: Just on the off chance that putting worms on a hook or being pelted with paint doesn’t push your buttons…relax there are plenty more ideas for a happy hen do … Samui has some of the finest spas in Thailand – specifically able to cater to larger group bookings, they will make sure that you and your friends have a blissful time being rubbed, oiled and generally treated like royalty. Not only will you leave feeling fantastic with all pre-wedding jitters dissolved in a wisp of essential oils, but you will look spectacular too; think manicure, pedicure, freshly buffed and shining skin. You’ll be 100% wedding dress ready.

Want to add a bit of culture to the day – engage your friends with a Thai cooking class. Not only is this a fun way to spend the morning…not to mention lunch, when you get to taste your handiwork…but you’ll also be giving your friends a new skill to take back with them.

Private yoga lessons are also a very popular way to begin the hen do and start the day off with a wholesome and healthy feel…even if this doesn’t last until the early hours!

But, hey, it doesn’t have to be all about relaxation and cooking – you want activity days too? Boat trips can incorporate stops for snorkeling and exploring the coral reefs, or you could take it one step further and organise a ‘fun dive’ day trip to really discover the delights of the deep! Island tours can be tailor made to allow you to come off the beaten track and see a different side to Samui – hidden jungle paths, elephants, temples and of course a few monkeys…

Evening Activities: After all that exertion both groups are certainly going to be in need of a drink…or five! Whether you want cocktails and fine-dining or buckets and street food it’s all readily available. For evening entertainment the island offers a host of cabaret shows, movie nights, live Muay Thai fights, traditional Thai dancing and much, much more!

Family-friendly activities: Since they don’t drink, aren’t impressed by views and eat 2 hours earlier than everyone else, it can often be hard to accommodate children on group holidays! Luckily there are some specifically child-orientated activities available to keep them happy.  There is a specially designed children’s water park in Lamai, a huge inflatable activity area anchored just off Chaweng beach, horse riding,  a soft play center for the little ones and of course many, many options to see elephants, monkeys, tigers and a host of other wildlife that will blow their minds!

Samui is a warm and friendly island so, whether you turn up dressed in a tacky veil with a group of lively bridesmaids in tow or with push-chairs and group of excited toddlers, expect to be welcomed with open arms!
